How to add contacts and emergency contacts to your phone
Adding contacts (people's names and phone numbers) makes your phone easier to use. Adding emergency contacts is especially important — they can be reached even if your phone is locked.
-
Open the Contacts app
Find the app called "Contacts" (it has a gray icon with a person silhouette). You can also tap the Phone app and then tap the "Contacts" tab at the bottom.
-
Tap the + button
Tap the plus sign in the top-right corner of the screen.
-
Fill in the name and phone number
Type the person's first name, last name, and phone number. Tap "Done" in the top-right when finished. You can add more details (email, address, birthday) any time by tapping the contact and then "Edit."
-
To set up emergency contacts, open the Health app
Now go back to your Home Screen and find the "Health" app (white with a pink heart). Tap it.
-
Tap your profile picture in the top-right
In the Health app, tap the small circle with your initials or picture in the top-right corner.
-
Tap "Medical ID"
Scroll down to find "Medical ID" and tap it. Then tap "Edit" in the top-right.
-
Add emergency contacts
Scroll down to "Emergency Contacts" and tap "Add Emergency Contact." Choose people from your Contacts list. Pick at least two — usually a family member and a close friend or neighbor.
-
Turn on "Show When Locked"
Scroll back to the top of the Medical ID edit page. Make sure "Show When Locked" is turned on. This lets first responders see your Medical ID and call your emergency contacts even if your phone is locked.
Emergency option stays visible even when the phone is locked.
